The citizen participants in this project will be selected at random, but controlled to ensure appropriate representation of age, gender, ethnicity and location across the four nations of the UK. This method of selection is called ‘sortition’. This approach is important because it means that, in principle, any UK citizen could be represented in the Citizens’ Economic Council, giving the recommendations of the Council legitimacy.
